Reading in the church during a heavy thunderstorm.

The sky is darker now, and the smell of ozone is soon accompanied by droplets falling faster and faster. You have quite the walk before you can get home. What a great occurrence then you should find yourself in front of the church, with the steady glow of candlelight inside. You begin at once to ascend the warm stone staicase. Reaching the top you look back. The trees, shrubs and bushes are all wilted. The birds and wildlife have all gone and you watch the last squirrel disappear into the thick of the tree.

You grab hold of the large brass ring on the wooden door and heave it open to enter the sanctuary of the old church. One or two people are seated at the pews and the sound of a choir sweetly resonates the atmosphere inside but, they are nowhere to be seen. As you close the heavy door the warm summer wind whips across your face. You shake yourself off and wipe your feet. Turning, you spot a coblestone fireplace in the corner of the room. A few comfy arm chairs beckons you to seat yourself in front of the warmth.

You cross to the other side of the room. As you sit, you notice the top of the oak table next to you has a copy of one of your favorite books laying out. The last reader had good taste. With no obligations this evening, why not wait out the storm with a good read.

Settle in and become absorbed in the words on the pages and read to the soothing rhythm of mother nature pelting the stained glass windows and a choir that never ends.
