Rainy Cottage Teatime
The cottage might look deceptively lonely from the outside, but inside there is a business of boiling water and clinking pewter spoons, lively as the rain dashing down the forest canopy from twig to leaf, to splash persistently against the little window. The light is muted in color but bright, and the homely timber absorbs the ambient sunlight without diminishing it, and the summer moisture, breathing it in so that the kitchen smells like live wood.
