Rainy Breakfast
You kneel in front of the hearth as the storm rolls in, lighting a fire to warm yourself after the chilly October night. It takes just a few strikes of your lighter before the flames leap up, almost as if they were expecting you, eager to do their job. As you ease back into your favorite chair you switch on the TV. The anchor drones on about little things, community events and not much more. But you don't mind. You smile, grateful to live in uneventful times.
Music drifts in from the other room. The one you love appears with a large book and a cup of coffee. You watch fondly as they settle in to the seat next to you, already absorbed in their read. The rain beats down on the windows. You have nowhere else to be. But as you look around the room you realize you wouldn't have it any other way.
