In Preparation for Battle
You want peace. The last few days have been too taxing. All you want to do before the battle tomorrow is to empty your mind and to rest your body. You ask your daughter Miwa to accompany you in a retreat in the bamboo forest, away from the noise of your house and neighbors. You listen to a distant stream and the rustling of the bamboo leaves as it dances with the wind. You hear Miwa playing her shakuhachi, and it further relaxes your mind and body. The birds seem to sing and follow your daughter's music. You hear a kitsune call and wonder if it is Miwa's mother. You sip your tea and hope this serenity will last forever. You forget about tomorrow's battle.
